Illinois-based artist and potter Yoshiko Kozawa of Studio Giverny creates these clever and adorable handmade animal vases .
“I took my first ceramics class in 2010 as a college student, and I have been a student ever since! I stretch myself artistically like I stretch clay, spending long hours at the studio perfecting skills and designs. I take the ideas that develop in my mind and translate it into the clay in my hands.
The name of my business, Studio Giverny, is inspired by Monet’s home and garden in Giverny, France. I visited Giverny in 2013 and marveled at how Monet had engineered the lily pond and flower beds that inspired his paintings. I started to imagine how I could create vessels that interacted and inspire others.
As a girl who grew up in Hong Kong, I never imagined that I would be a potter. To be an artist was just a dream. It has been through God’s graciousness and my husband’s support that I have been able to pursue my passion. So far all my dreams have come true so I’ll keep on dreaming!”
