Each year, BAFTA chooses an artist to illustrate both its Film Award campaign poster and the brochure covers. This year, they chose Hungarian artist Levente Szabó.
“I considered myself extremely lucky when BAFTA’s creative partner the Human After All agency offered me the chance to work with them on the 2016 BAFTA posters. It was a life-long dream of mine, but I never thought I’ll ever have the chance so you could imagine my excitement!
The theme of the campaign is ‘Window to Another World’, a concept that speaks of screen as a magical portal we peer through to experience a vast realm of adventures. This concept explores how the experience of cinema is one that takes place not just within the limits of the screen, but within the limitlessness of our own imaginations.
To express this idea, ’Window to Another World’ uses a deceptively simple framing image, within which we can glimpse an epic adventure unfolding.”Levente Szabó
“The second part of the project was to produce five posters for the nominees in the Best Film category.
There were still a dozen of candidates in December but we already had to start
developing the series’ visual identity as the final nominees were announced
only at 9th of January and we had roughly two weeks to finish them.”
